Folding Hunting Knife – Ready for the Wild

Having a folding knife for hunting is practical and helps with safety, too. It’s there when you need it and not a moment sooner. Goodness knows there is enough to carry on a hunting trip. This way you do not have to worry about misplacing your sport knife.

Sporting knifes come in all shapes and sizes. If you’ve got a folding hunting knife, lucky you.

Folding hunting knives have only been around for 45 years or so.  A folding hunting knife with a locking device that keeps the blade open while is use created a whole new opportunity in knives.

Now a hunter can have a great all-around knife and a super hunting knife in one easy-to-carry package.

When opened, the knife blade will gut and skin the wild game as required. Perfect buck pocket knife.

When closed, the knife slips into a pocket or a small sheath to be transported anywhere (except airports today).

The folding pocket knife comes in various sizes depending on the use.  It can have one or two or more blades.  If there are two blades, one blade is longer, thicker and stronger.  The stronger blade is used for cutting heavier items and skinning big game.  The smaller blade is used for other purposes or for smaller game.

There are several considerations to purchasing a folding hunting knife.

The first one is the size of the game you hunt.  What is the largest animal you will use it on?  And what is the smallest animal you will use it on?  A pig hunting knife is different than the one you’d want for bear. By answering these two questions, you have an idea of the size of the folding hunting knife you need.

The handles are made from various materials and come in different designs and colors.  You can find a handle that you will enjoy for many, many years and that fits your hand.

The common materials for handles are antler, plastics and metals.

These knives offer more versatility than a fixed blade knife.  They can be used for other purposes.  Around the campfire in the evening, the folding hunting knife can be slipped out of a pocket and used to cut a toothpick from a piece of firewood.

On a hike through the woods, the knife can quickly be taken from the pocket, opened, and used to mark the trail. This is just using your survival skills smartly.

When home, the knife has many uses, opening plastic containers, cutting hose and cords, adding holes to belts, cutting flowers, opening dog food sacks, and cutting through tape on packages.  Because the folding hunting knife slips easily into a pocket, it is transported anywhere you are.  Now you do not have to stop and go get a knife.  You have one with you, in your pocket, within easy reach. Just like an old timer pocket knife, only larger.

And because it is a folding hunting knife, it is always sharp and ready to use.
