Pots and Pans Are a Fantastic Gift Idea
We don’t think of pots and pans being a much-desired holiday gift, but that’s not true. Some of us dream of just such a gift. We live and breathe food these days while watching the Food Network. We want to be Food Network chefs ourselves at home. We have learned from the best, and now we want to put it in practice at home with our kitchen cooking.
Has your wife been “dropping hints” that your hand me down, thrift store, college days cookware is worn out and doesn’t work so well? Besides, she says, a really great set of cookware is not all that expensive. Look at all the money guys put into other things, she says, meaning fishing and hunting gear and a riding lawnmower. Well, that’s a logical spousal assertion about a guy’s hunting and fishing gear and yard toy budget.
Great cookware inspires the cook and improves the quality of the chef’s cooking. If she goes on to say that it would enhance the quality of the chef’s cooking, she’s got a winning argument for sure. If she says that she will make your favorite veal, buffalo, steak, pork or chicken dishes easier to cook, how could you possibly not want that?
When cooking skills these days are often nearly at the gourmet level, and with us wanting to raise the bar even higher, well, buying some great cookware makes sense.
Coming up with a great set of cookware, that’s the challenge. Selecting pots and pans can be a little bit overwhelming. If you are the gift-giver you have to ask subtle questions about preferences when you are out window shopping at the store. Does she like copper bottomed cookware? Is she swooning over the stainless steel cookware sets?
From the manufacturers’ information you can learn alot, but first you have to learn some brand names, just in order to start researching. Here are some good names to start with:
- Revere Cookware
- Kitchenaid Cookware
- Rachael Ray Cookware
- Calphalon Cookware
- Le Crueset Cookware
- Paula Deen Cookware
- Cuisinart Cookware
One of the chief attributes of quality cookware isn’t just to last forever, like cast iron. Great cookware needs to disperse the heat evenly surrounding the food and to retain that heat.
The aesthetics, the overall appearance, can’t be overlooked, of course. Looking really stunning is aesthetically important, and it’s more important to some home chefs than to the others who could care less. Logically, if your family are going to be using this pot and pan set every day, it might as well look fantastic. Just be willing to put in the time, if extra tender loving care is required, like for copper bottom or all copper. You have to know what maintenance will be required.
The outer surface needs to clean easily, since, yes, food sometimes sticks to the outside.
Non-stick inner surfaces both aid in cleaning and keep the food from sticking while cooking.
Handles on pots, pans and lids need a fairly high temperature rating if the cookware is to go in the oven.
Your choice will depend on your individual family’s cooking needs. Modern cookware can cover all these bases for you. If you haven’t purchased a cooking set in awhile, you will be pleasantly surprised by what is available. The desired cooking properties are achieved by sandwiching or layering different types of metals to disperse and retain heat as well as to make cleaning inside and out a breeze, while retaining a great look.
As with most purchases you plan to have for a while, superior quality and performance are the target, and may be a better choice than a “real deal” or a “cheap deal.” Always seek great things at great value, and try to keep your eye on that target.
Your spouse will likely be very pleased with your selection. A gift from the heart is a demonstration of love and affection, and a tribute to the years you have spent together, and the ones yin the future that ou hope to share. How could she not like it? So, do not hesitate to give love in the form of pots and pans.
