Electric Wok – Convenient and Fun

Electric wok is different than a kitchen skillet. It has the distinctive artistic curved bowl of an ancient stainless steel wok. The marvelous thing about using one of these newer countertop units is that you can rely on regular and constant heat thanks to the power grid.

Wok cooking has been around for centuries, practically since kitchen and cook were invented. It is a great way to prepare quick and healthy dishes that include fresh vegetables. Cooking with healthful, fresh ingredients can’t be beat.

Of the many kitchen appliances that are available for purchase, and that receive regular use in most kitchens, one of the most convenient and overlooked appliances is surely the electric wok. Electric woks work much in the same way that traditional woks for stovetop or flame work, except that they have their own holder and electric outlet, freeing up stove space, and generally making them easier and more fun to use.

Consider an evening at home where the kitchen is really bustling. If you are making a full course meal, you will likely have all available elements on your stovetop occupied. Instead of trying to cook with your wok on an inconvenient back element, where you will risk burns or upsetting another dish that is cooking at the same time, you can simply use an available electric outlet and any available countertop space, and fire up your electric wok. This freeing up of element space means that you will not only be able to simultaneously work on a number of dishes at the same time, but also that your cooking area will be more organized and more enjoyable to work in.

Some popular features to look for on various models of electric woks include temperature controls, non-stick surfaces, a good quality lid that accompanies the set up, and a size that suits your cooking volume needs. As with any cooking surface, the ability to control and adjust the surface cooking temperature is extremely important.

One of the many advantages of electric woks, as opposed to woks that sit above open flames, is that you can minutely control the temperature at any given moment during the cooking process, and not have to worry about removing the wok from the flame in order to reduce the cooking speed. Look for temperature controls that make sense to you, and additional features, such as built in thermostats, in order to gain the most from your electric wok experience.

Because woks are generally used for various forms of frying, most electric versions have non-stick features, in order to facilitate not only cooking, but also cleaning. No one likes to have the food stick to the pan as it cooks, and in high temperature situations such as wok cooking, this possibility is considerably augmented.

Because electric woks have no direct exposure to direct flame and those often extremely high and uncontrollable temperatures, their interiors are capable of sustaining non-stick surface coatings which traditional flame heated woks would not. Having less food stick or burn to the cooking surface not only means a more enjoyable cooking experience; it also means less cleaning time and effort. Whereas traditional woks often need to be soaked for extensive periods of time in order to be effectively cleaned, electric woks should, in essence, require only a few wipes in order to be cleaned and prepared for future use.

Discovering the ease and convenient enjoyment that an electric wok can bring to your kitchen cooking will make a person glad they added this home appliance. Available at reasonable prices, and designed to be long lasting appliances, they are one kitchen tool that is definitely worth purchasing: the electric wok.
