Laundry Basket – Carries Everything!

The laundry basket of today is not the heavy one of yesteryear. They are functional, modern, traditional, fitting in to any décor you happen to have. Whether you have it storing paper goods in the pantry, a surprise engagement ring, or an unexpected pair of anniversary tickets to Hawaii, you can use a laundry basket for anything.

The best news, too, is that laundry baskets are reusable. You can have a laundry basket collection, and put each one to practical use every day.  It could be for storage, or as rough and tumble as using it to hold garden tools as you work in the backyard.

We all take laundry baskets for granted. Whether we are the owners of the heavy duty plastic laundry basket with the open weave design or owners of some more exotic laundry basket with compartments and lids, laundry baskets are not to be thought of as clothes hampers.

There is currently a new laundry basket whose designer holds the patent until 2023 that is meant to be used when taking one’s clothes to the laundromat. The newly patented laundry basket design has ports for soap, bleach, softener and other items that makes going to the laundromat an organized affair with all supplies accounted for including, of course, the dirty clothes that will need to be washed.

Actually, when you think about going to the laundromat with one or two laundry baskets full of dirty clothes, fitting the soaps and bleach and fabric softener, as well as making sure you have enough quarters can be a balancing act worthy of a circus clown. This particular laundry basket actually has compartments for all of these products which makes going to the laundromat a less vexing experience.

Few people realize that the simple laundry basket has a history of patents. For example, in 1994, Charles Kraft patented the rectangular laundry basket. Whenever we see a round laundry basket, some with cover, the patent was issued to Joseph Messina in 1995. What we take for granted, our laundry baskets, someone had to design and get a patent for and get paid royalties as well. While thinking of money, consider the question of who would pay over $50 for a laundry basket?

Most housewives are content to having three or more laundry baskets in the basement near there washing machine or in their off the kitchen laundry to keep dirty clothes in until washed and to carry clean clothes out when they are dried. Spending, at the most, $50 for all three laundry baskets is about normal. But, if you were living in a condominium or an apartment and had to tote your clothes and your supplies to the laundromat, you might want a sturdier, compartmentalized laundry basket to make your trip respectable and organized. How would you like to find yourself in the laundromat sorting through your dirty clothes looking for the coin purse that you are sure you dropped in before leaving your place?

Laundry baskets come in different shapes and sizes and if you are travelling with your laundry in a laundry basket, you might want a laundry basket with a lid to keep your clothes in while being transported from laundry to closet. The situation dictates the product required.

Laundry baskets aren’t just for the laundry anymore.  They are perfect for storing yarn, children’s toys, sport equipment in the minivan… all kinds of things.

You can have your clothes basket blend in with the paint color in the living room, or, if you are of a wilder nature, you can have a brightly-colored basket that hollers, “Hi there, look at me!”

If you have only one or two of these delightful containers, I have to say that it might just be time to acquire some more laundry baskets!
