Shopping for Babies, Kids, Toys

Kids have their own set of needs and requirements. Whether it’s infant carriers, jeans that will last, or action figures, the world of shopping for children is a world apart. An interesting world!

Shopping for babies and little kids can sometimes be daunting, but with the right information in hand you will find that it can be quite enjoyable.

In our modern times, many things have been created to make life much easier than long ago. Even with the many alternatives available, we always want to be sure we’re shopping for great things at great value.

From matching car seats and strollers, wet wipe warmers, and swings that vibrate, there is a plethora of items to put on your shopping list. Although, it is important to know what the differences are between the needs and wants of small children and babies. Starting with babies, you will find information listed below regarding what essential items you should buy for them.

Babies

When shopping for babies, whether it be your child or the child of someone else, you must know the birth date and of course the sex of the child.

If the gender is being withheld until the birth, then the colors of green and yellow will be acceptable for either sex. With that information obtained you will now be able to buy clothing with the knowledge of time of year versus what type of clothing to buy ahead for. The reason for this is so that if you should decide to purchase an infant winter outfit, you know for certain the child will be born during that season.

As for the types of clothing that is needed for babies, you will need the following, pajamas that snap down the front, bibs, and most importantly onesies(one piece shirts that snap in the crotch area). Socks and hats will depend upon the weather, but having some on hand won’t hurt.

Next, you will need to have several baby blankets which will help keep the the baby warm and toasty. Blankets for infants are also really great for keeping infants who prefer to be snugly wrapped up at night and during naps.

Now as we all know in order to travel with your child in the car you must have a car seat and stroller, and with so many great choices you are sure to find the perfect one that suits that special baby in your life.

Buying baby gear for travel and home will also include a diaper bag and possibly a baby sling. Baby slings are good for when you want to hold your child close, but need your arms free for doing something else.

There are many extras like grocery cart covers, travel playpens, and baby gates to consider as your baby grows and starts to crawl and walk.

Also with babies, their hygiene of course is very important. You will need to have a baby bathtub, bath products, and wash clothes for bath time. Today you can find disposable wash clothes that already have soap in them, these are great for traveling.

As your baby grows out of the baby bath tub, you will need a safety seat to securely keep your baby from slipping under the water in the bath tub. Keep in mind that with any bathing items, a child should always be supervised to prevent drowning.

Most importantly for babies is their sleeping and eating. Furniture, like cribs, changing tables and dressers have been made to accommodate the child as they grow.

Along with the crib, you may also want to purchase a bassinet or cradle for the parents room. Of course, there are traditional wooden cradles to consider, but you will find plenty of the travel playpens that are equipped with a bassinet feature as well. These are to be placed beside the bed to keep infants near the parents, which allows peace of mind while the infant rests.

Even though bassinets and cradles are used for a short amount of time, they are really worth the money because it makes the middle of the night feedings and diaper changes very easy.

Speaking of feedings, whether breast feeding or formula feeding, you will need burp clothes and lots of them. Burp clothes come in many different fabrics, and you can even have them monogrammed with the first initial of your child’s name.

Once baby food is introduced, you will want to consider what type of high chair you will need to purchase.

Highchairs come in two varieties, stand alone and those that strap to tables and chairs.

Once your baby begins to walk and crawl, they will move into the toddler and preschool stage of their lives. Because they are growing by leaps and bounds and changing at the speed of light, you will want to stay current with the needs and sizes of your little kid. So that your money will effectively supply your child in the best way possible, read below to find out what you should purchase for small children.

Little Kids

Little kids, just like babies, need clothing too. However, little kids need more types like jeans and shirts, underwear, and shoes.

As discussed earlier, the same principle that pertains to the size and time of year that the clothes are to be worn by babies, also applies to clothing for little kids.

Toddler clothing is also based off of the child’s age like baby clothing, which is listed in months. So if your child is 2 years old then they will wear 24 month old clothing.

Keep in mind that all brands and sizing can be different so pay close attention to size when purchasing clothing.

When it comes to shoes, it is best to check your child’s foot size every couple of months. By doing this, you are ensuring comfortable fitting shoes for their constantly growing feet.

Travel gear for little kids is going to be pretty much the same as to what they had when they were babies.

Most strollers can continue to be used for your child up to the age of 5 or 6 years old. You can also look into jogging strollers and back packs for those who like to get outdoors.

The car seat however, will need to be replaced with a forward facing seat.

Some car seats now have the capability of converting from a rear facing to a forward facing seat. This feature enables you to only have to purchase one car seat rather than two or three.

As your child grows older they will need a booster seat, which comes in backed and backless. These will need to be bought for your child to keep them safe in the car since they aren’t ready for seat belts.

You will also notice that you will continue to carry a diaper bag to hold pull ups, sipping cups, and snacks.

As with all children, toys are an absolute must. With so many choices, you may be wondering where to begin and what to buy. Helping with the aspects of education, coordination, and of course fun, read below to find out more about what kinds of toys are out there for babies and kids.

Toys

The best word to describe a toy is fun.

Capable of capturing a child’s attention and imagination, toys are the best thing to provide to a child.

As the times have changed, toys have become more advanced with lights and sounds. Some of the most popular are educational toys that teach numbers, letters, and colors, which engage the child with the parent to learn at a very early age.

As the child grows older, mini computers and game systems have been created to help teach language, math, science, and social studies.

The next type of toy to consider for babies and little kids are coordination toys, like wooden blocks, puzzles, and musical instruments.

These toys teach children how to manipulate items with their hands, while helping them to comprehend the big world around them.

Of course, there are some toys that are made to be just plain fun. Toys that are for pure amusement, making a child laugh, will give both comfort and memories.

One particular toy that does this is the ever popular stuffed animal. Not only are they great for helping little ones feel secure, but it can also be used in play, bringing a child’s imagination to life.

Another great toy for imaginative play is an action figure or doll, however, these are best for older children.

Also, some more great items for little kids are motorized cars and talking toys. With so many toys for inside play, outside toys can’t be forgotten, especially during summer. As you sift through all the toy choices you will want to make sure the toy is age appropriate for the child before you purchase it.

So as you can see, when it comes to children they have many needs. From clothing to toys, you will now have a better understanding as to the different types of essentials that can be purchased for them. Making sure you know their age, gender, and size, you will be equipped to make an informed purchase, whether it be for a baby or a little kid. Also, with an informed purchase, you will have the joy of seeing a happy child using the item.
